The town has 12.000 residents,
is situated in the Odenwald mountains, is a famous pilgrim- and resting
place in the region.
As it lies near to several big cities as Frankfurt, Würzburg, Heidelberg
and Heilbronn, it can be reached easy by car, by train and also by plain.
Tourism
Walldürn is the third most important pilgrim place of Germany, the
Cathedral of the town is one of the most beautiful Baroque buildings
of the Rhine-Main region, visited by 150.000 pilgrims yearly. The centre
of the town is dominated by the winding small roads and timber skeletoned
houses, there are various shops, restaurants, cafés, hotels in
them. Here you can find the eldest town hall of Germany, which serves
until today as the major’s residence. The city offers a wide range
of free-time activities, like tennis, swimming, stagecoach riding, hiking,
cycling, there is a 27-holes golf course near to the town and a cable
railway named „Forest Jump”. Several bicycle routes meet
in the town area. Walldürn is part of the UNESCO Bergstrasse/Odenwald
Geopark.
Culture
Walldürn offers diverse and varied cultural programs. There are
permanently theatre performances, open-air performances, readings, cabarets,
concerts etc. In the gallery „Reil’sches Haus” works
of world-famous artist are exhibited, in 2001 Marc Chagall’s, in
2002 Salvador Dali’s, in 2003 Pablo Picasso’s, in 2004 Joan
Miró’s, in 2005 Henri Matisse’s paintings were put
on display. There are several museums in the town - the most important
one is the Open Air Museum of Odenwald - they allow us to have a look
at the art of the past days, in addition to this also works of modern,
contemporary artists are exhibited.
Economy
Walldürn is an important economical centre in the region. Here has
settled down among others the company Braun, which operates since 1950
its rasor manufacturing factory. The town offers ideal conditions for
the settling down of other companies, in its industrial park there is
enough place aviable immediately and it has the necessary infrastucture
as well. The arterial roads 27 and 47 touch the town, through them it
has connections to the highways to Frankfurt and Stuttgart/Heilbronn,
beside this the town can be reached also by railway and air transport.
Appropriate training possibilities, active association life, specially
favourable building site prices and company friendly public administration
are at the companies’ disposal.
