Szentgotthárd Brass Band

Szentgotthárd Brass Band was formed as Firefighter Bandi n 1906. The I. International Brass Band and ’Mazsorett’ Festival was held in July, 1998, which has become tradition since then. The band has been the member of the Hungarian Brass Association since 1999. In 2000 the band got silver classification in concert wind-instrument category, gold qualification in show category. They took part at Italian International Brass Band meeting ( Tutta Banda ) in 2002.

Szentgotthárd Mixed Chorus

The Chorus of the Cultural House was formed as Ferenc Liszt Mixed Chorus in 1962. Its successor Szentgotthárd Mixed Chorus was formed in September 1997. Mundane and religious classical musical compositions, light music elaborations are also there in their repertory. ’Times and Songs’ Internatonal Chorus Meeting was first held in 1996 and since then it has been tradition.

Mazsorett Group

The group was formed in 1992 at present in three age-groups, nearly sixty people are getting to know the secrets of wand wielding. In 2000 they got silver diploma in march and showdance category.

Rábafüzes German Woman Chorus

The first performance of the choir was in 1997. For more than 25 years they performed in Vienna Collegium Hungaricum,in 1985 they got the third class of medal in ’Reicht brüderlich die Hand’ national competition.
They are regular performers of ’Heimattreffen’ German minority cultural performances. Since their formation their aim has been to try to find the German folk song treasure, collect and transmit to the young people. So far they have managed to put nearly 100 songs down. In autumn 2000 the group had its first original CD and cassette with Hianzischer title come out.

Hungarian Slovenian Association

In Szentgotthárd Slovenian minority is dominant, here Hungarian Slovenian Association works and in the small region ( in Felsőszölnök ) the National Slovenian Local Authority resides. The association developed from Lipa ( Hárfa ) Slovenian Union. Its task is to promote the mother tongue and cultural traditions and to broaden the vernacular information. Cultural activities of the Slovenian minority is very vivid and rich.

There are several cultural groups with nearly one hundred members. Ágoston Pável Mixed Chorus was formed in 1938 as a religious choir. Apátistvánfalva Woman Choir promotes the Slovenian culture, chamber music orchestra belonging to Szentgotthárd Retired Club was formed in 1993, László Korpics’s music band and woman quartet, Palcki ( dwarves ) puppet group was formed in 1983 and Felsőszölnök folk dance group. Nindrik-Indrik performing group was formed in 1995 and Tradition preserving Dance Group was formed in 1997 with an aim to revive Rába provincial wedding customs. The Slovenian Information and Cultural Centre was surrended in 1998 which has a conference hall, an exhibition room and catering unit. The radio has a place here,too. The Slovenian Consulate – General has been working in Szentgotthárd since 1998.
