Mayor's words of welcome

Welcome on the website of Szentgotthárd.

Our town is situated on the encounter of Hungarian – Austrian – Slovenian three borders. Its inhabitants preserve the culture and traditions of these three natons. In the last century Szentgotthárd became
well-known mainly as an industrial settlement. Since 1992 manufacturing of motor car parts has joined the traditionally existing agricultural machine manufacturing and light industry. Szentgotthárd together with neighbouring Heiligenkreuz have established Austrian – Hungarian Industrial Park extending over cross-border using up EU support where nearly 3000 people have been working.

Tourism has been developed in the town and in the region. More and more visitors are attracted by sights in Őrség and Vend countryside provided protected surroundings of nature and River Rába every year.
Tourism developing programme has been worked out which lays the foundations of building the new thermal spa on the existing thermal water. Szentgotthárd is not only the economic, but also the health and culture centre of the region. Local Authority and its institutions would like to guarantee more standard work and services for local people here.
I hope the readers of our website will get to know more the past and values of the town. They will have up-to-date information about the activities and ambitions of Local Authority. Our wish is to present this website and with its help Szentgotthárd Local Authority will be able to realize the programme of the intelligent town.

Yours faithfully,

Tibor Viniczay
Mayor
